Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle, is a black comedy-drama that follows a group of heroin addicts in a socio-economically depressed area of late 1980s Edinburgh. The film centers on Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) as he tries to navigate life, addiction, and his dysfunctional friendships, offering a raw, unflinching, yet often darkly humorous look at their struggles and attempts to escape their circumstances.

Did You Know?

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh, who makes a cameo appearance as drug dealer Mikey Forrester. The title "Trainspotting" refers to the hobby of watching trains, but in the context of the novel and film, it's also used metaphorically to describe the pointless and repetitive nature of the characters' drug habits. The film's iconic "Choose Life" monologue became a defining cultural statement of the 1990s. Ewan McGregor lost a significant amount of weight to portray the emaciated Renton.
