To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, directed by Beeban Kidron, is a comedy about three New York City drag queens—Vida Boheme (Patrick Swayze), Noxeema Jackson (Wesley Snipes), and the novice Chi-Chi Rodriguez (John Leguizamo)—who embark on a cross-country road trip to Hollywood for a national drag pageant. When their car breaks down in a small, conservative Midwestern town, they are forced to interact with the locals, leading to unexpected friendships and transformations.
Did You Know?
Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo underwent extensive make-up and costume sessions to transform into their characters. The film's title is a reference to a signed photo of actress Julie Newmar that the characters carry with them. Robin Williams makes an uncredited cameo appearance early in the film. Many of the townspeople in Snydersville were played by actual residents of Loma, Nebraska, where those scenes were filmed.
