The Pianist is a historical drama directed by Roman Polanski, based on the true story of Władysław Szpilman, a Jewish pianist who struggles to survive the devastation of the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. As Szpilman loses his family, his home, and his city, his love for music and sheer will to live carry him through unimaginable hardships. Haunting, emotional, and powerfully understated, The Pianist captures both the horror of war and the quiet resilience of the human spirit.

Did You Know?

Adrien Brody, who played Szpilman, learned to play the piano and dropped significant weight to physically and emotionally embody the role, eventually winning the Academy Award for Best Actor. At 29 years old, Brody became the youngest actor ever to win the Oscar for Best Actor. Roman Polanski, himself a survivor of the Kraków Ghetto, brought deep personal experience to the film’s depiction of wartime Poland. Much of the movie was shot in carefully reconstructed ruins of Warsaw, using authentic locations and painstakingly detailed sets. The Pianist won three Academy Awards, including Best Director for Polanski, and is widely regarded as one of the most powerful Holocaust films ever made.
