The cover art features London's iconic Elizabeth Tower (commonly known as Big Ben) set against a dark and stormy sky. Bursting out from the clock face is not a traditional cuckoo, but a frantic, squawking, rooster-like bird on a violently stretched spring. The dramatic, low-angle perspective enhances the sense of chaos and absurdity as this symbol of British order and punctuality appears to be breaking down.
Artistic Insight
Created by artist Mark Ulriksen, "Crazy Time" is a pointed and witty political cartoon commenting on the turmoil surrounding Brexit. In March 2019, the United Kingdom's Parliament was in a state of crisis, repeatedly failing to agree on a plan to leave the European Union. Ulriksen masterfully transforms a symbol of national stability—the clock tower—into a metaphor for the political chaos. The replacement of the predictable cuckoo with a frantic, nonsensical bird perfectly captures the feeling of a government in disarray and a nation at its breaking point, underscored by the stretched spring and ominous sky.
