The Muppet Christmas Carol, directed by Brian Henson, is a musical fantasy comedy-drama that retells Charles Dickens's classic novella A Christmas Carol with the beloved Muppet characters. Michael Caine stars as the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, while Kermit the Frog plays Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy plays Emily Cratchit, and Gonzo narrates as Charles Dickens himself, accompanied by Rizzo the Rat.

Did You Know?

This was the first Muppet film to be produced after the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson. The film is dedicated to him and puppeteer Richard Hunt. Many of the songs were written by Paul Williams, who had previously worked on The Muppet Movie. To maintain the classic feel of Dickens's story, Michael Caine reportedly told the filmmakers he would play his role like he was working with the Royal Shakespeare Company and would not interact with the Muppets as if they were puppets, but as fellow actors. It was the first time a human character was the sole protagonist in a Muppet movie, with the Muppets in supporting roles.
