Directed by Joel Schumacher, this 1987 horror-comedy classic follows two teenage brothers, Michael and Sam, who move with their recently divorced mother to the seaside town of Santa Carla, California. They soon discover that the town is a haven for a stylish gang of young vampires, led by the charismatic David (Kiefer Sutherland). After Michael is lured into the group and begins to show signs of vampirism, it's up to Sam and his new comic-book-nerd friends, the Frog brothers, to save him. The film is a beloved cult favorite, praised for its blend of horror, humor, and its iconic 80s rock soundtrack.
Interesting Tidbit: The film was originally conceived as a much tamer, kid-friendly adventure in the vein of The Goonies, with the vampires being 13- or 14-year-old kids. The director of The Goonies, Richard Donner, was initially attached to direct. However, when Joel Schumacher took over the project, he felt the concept would be much more interesting and appealing if the vampires were older, transforming it into the edgier, sexier teen horror film it became.
