This 1985 sports drama, written, directed by, and starring Sylvester Stallone, is the fourth installment in the Rocky franchise. The film embodies the Cold War tensions of the 1980s, pitting American boxing champion Rocky Balboa against Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a seemingly invincible, scientifically-trained Soviet boxer. After Drago kills his friend Apollo Creed in an exhibition match, a guilt-ridden Rocky travels to the Soviet Union to fight Drago on his home turf, seeking revenge and defending his country's honor. The film is famous for its iconic training montages and its patriotic, crowd-pleasing story.
Interesting Tidbit: During the filming of the final fight, Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren decided to engage in some legitimate sparring to make the scene look more realistic. Stallone encouraged Lundgren to hit him for real for one take. Lundgren obliged with a powerful punch to the chest that was so severe it caused Stallone's heart to swell. Stallone was rushed from the set in Canada to a hospital in California, where he was put in intensive care for eight days with a dangerously high blood pressure reading, an injury more commonly seen in car accidents.
