Directed by Paul Verhoeven, this 1987 sci-fi action film is a brilliant and brutally satirical critique of corporate greed, media sensationalism, and law enforcement. In a crime-ridden, dystopian Detroit of the near future, police officer Alex Murphy is viciously murdered by a gang. He is subsequently resurrected by the mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) as a cyborg law enforcement machine known as RoboCop. As he cleans up the streets, fragments of his past life begin to surface, leading him to seek vengeance against his killers and expose the corruption within OCP.

Interesting Tidbit: The iconic RoboCop suit was a major challenge for the production. When actor Peter Weller first tried it on, the costume was so bulky and restrictive that he could barely move, leading to significant filming delays. Frustrated, Weller and his movement coach, Moni Yakim, developed a slow, deliberate, almost mime-like way of walking to compensate for the suit's limitations. Director Paul Verhoeven initially hated the slow pace, but when he saw the final result with sound effects and music, he realized that the deliberate movement gave the character a powerful and unique physical presence.
