Did You Know?
This was Satoshi Kon's feature directorial debut, and it established his reputation as a master of psychological and reality-bending narratives. The film is based on the novel Perfect Blue: Kanzen Hentai by Yoshikazu Takeuchi, though Kon significantly departed from the source material. Perfect Blue has been influential on subsequent filmmakers, with director Darren Aronofsky owning the remake rights and having a shot-for-shot remake of one of its scenes in his film Requiem for a Dream. It is praised for its mature themes, complex storytelling, and exploration of identity in the age of the internet.
