Jojo Rabbit is a dark comedy-drama directed by Taika Waititi, based on the novel Caging Skies by Christine Leunens. Set during World War II, the story follows Jojo, a lonely German boy whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. Guided—often comically—by his imaginary friend Adolf Hitler, Jojo begins to question everything he has been taught. With heart, humor, and poignancy, Jojo Rabbit explores the dangers of blind hatred and the power of compassion.

Taika Waititi, who directed the film, also played the role of Jojo’s imaginary Adolf Hitler to add a layer of absurdity and satire.
Waititi, of Māori and Jewish descent, said he portrayed Hitler "as ridiculous as possible" to mock and diminish him.
The film was shot in the Czech Republic, with colorful, almost storybook-like production design contrasting the dark historical setting.
Scarlett Johansson, who plays Jojo’s mother, received an Academy Award nomination for her heartfelt performance.
Jojo Rabbit won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and was praised for balancing humor and tragedy in a unique and daring way.
