Interview with the Vampire, directed by Neil Jordan, is a gothic horror film based on Anne Rice's 1976 novel of the same name. The story unfolds as the ancient vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt) recounts his immortal life story to a modern-day journalist (Christian Slater), detailing his transformation by the charismatic and decadent Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise) and their complex, centuries-spanning relationship, including their "parenting" of the child vampire Claudia (Kirsten Dunst).

Did You Know?

Anne Rice, the author of the novel, was initially very critical of the casting of Tom Cruise as Lestat but later praised his performance after seeing the film. River Phoenix was originally cast as the interviewer, Daniel Molloy, but died before filming began; Christian Slater took over the role and donated his entire salary to Phoenix's favorite charities. Kirsten Dunst, who was only 11 years old during filming, received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Claudia. The film was a major box office success and helped to reignite popular interest in vampire fiction.
