Home Alone, directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, is a beloved family comedy about eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), who is accidentally left behind when his large family rushes off on a Christmas vacation to Paris. Kevin initially enjoys his newfound freedom but soon has to defend his home from two bumbling burglars, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), using a series of ingenious and hilarious booby traps.
Did You Know?
Home Alone was a massive box office success, becoming the highest-grossing live-action comedy of all time in the United States until 2011. Macaulay Culkin's iconic "scream" pose with his hands on his cheeks became a defining image of the early 1990s. John Candy filmed his memorable cameo role as Gus Polinski, the "Polka King of the Midwest," in just one 23-hour day. The "angel" gangster film Kevin watches, Angels with Filthy Souls, was not a real movie but was created specifically for Home Alone.
