This iconic 1984 supernatural comedy, directed by Ivan Reitman, follows three eccentric parapsychology professors—Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler—who are fired from their university jobs. In response, they start a professional paranormal investigation and elimination service called "Ghostbusters." As paranormal activity escalates in New York City, they become the city's only hope against a powerful ancient deity, Gozer the Gozerian. The film is a beloved classic, perfectly blending comedy, action, and horror, and features one of the most recognizable theme songs in movie history.
Interesting Tidbit: The role of Peter Venkman, made famous by Bill Murray, was originally written for comedian John Belushi. After Belushi's tragic death in 1982, the part was offered to several other actors, including Michael Keaton, before going to Murray. Similarly, the role of Louis Tully was originally intended for comedian John Candy, but he passed on it. The part was then given to Rick Moranis, who improvised much of his dialogue, including his entire party speech where he talks to the guests about his boring accounting job.
