This 1982 action film is the first installment in the iconic Rambo series. The movie introduces John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone), a troubled and misunderstood Vietnam War veteran wandering the country. When he is unjustly harassed and arrested by the arrogant sheriff of a small town in Washington, his combat trauma is triggered. Rambo escapes custody and uses his elite military training to wage a brutal one-man war against the abusive local law enforcement. More than just an action movie, First Blood is a poignant commentary on the poor treatment of veterans returning from the Vietnam War.
Interesting Tidbit: In the original 1972 novel by David Morrell on which the film is based, the character of John Rambo is far more violent and kills many of his pursuers. For the film adaptation, Sylvester Stallone pushed to make the character more sympathetic. As a result, despite the high level of action and destruction, Rambo does not directly kill anyone in First Blood. The only on-screen death is the deputy who falls from the helicopter, which is portrayed as an accident.
