Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton, is a modern fairy tale with a gothic twist. The story begins when a kind Avon lady named Peg Boggs discovers a gentle, unfinished artificial man named Edward (Johnny Depp) living alone in a dark, hilltop castle. His creator died before completing him, leaving him with large, sharp scissors for hands. The vibrant, cookie-cutter suburban neighborhood was not a set but a real subdivision in Lutz, Florida, with the houses temporarily painted in pastel colors for the shoot. Winona Ryder, who plays Kim Boggs, was a fan of Burton's previous film Beetlejuice and eagerly sought a role in this film.
