Earthlings is a powerful documentary directed by Shaun Monson and narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. Using hidden cameras and never-before-seen footage, the film explores humanity’s reliance on animals for food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research. Deeply emotional and often difficult to watch, Earthlings challenges viewers to confront the ethical, environmental, and social consequences of how animals are treated around the world.
Did You Know?
Earthlings took five years to make, as Shaun Monson gathered footage from various industries that rarely allow public access. Joaquin Phoenix, a passionate advocate for animal rights, provided the narration and called it one of the most important films he’s ever worked on. The film’s haunting score was composed by musician and activist Moby, who also donated his work to the project. Earthlings is often referred to as “the vegan maker” for its profound impact on viewers who rethink their relationship with animals after seeing it. Despite its limited theatrical release, the film has gained a massive underground following and is considered essential viewing in the animal rights movement.
