Die Hard with a Vengeance, directed by John McTiernan, sees a suspended and down-on-his-luck John McClane (Bruce Willis) targeted by a mysterious terrorist named "Simon" (Jeremy Irons). Simon forces McClane to play a series of dangerous and humiliating "Simon Says" games throughout New York City, threatening to detonate bombs if McClane doesn't comply. McClane is reluctantly aided by a Harlem shop owner, Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), who gets caught up in the chaos.

This film was the third installment in the Die Hard series. The original script, titled Simon Says, was not initially intended to be a Die Hard film but was adapted. Samuel L. Jackson's character, Zeus Carver, was written specifically for him. The film features a different, more city-wide scope compared to the confined settings of the first two Die Hard movies. Jonathan Hensleigh, the screenwriter, also wrote the screenplay for Armageddon, which also starred Bruce Willis.
