Diana: In Her Own Words is a documentary that offers an unprecedented glimpse into the private thoughts and experiences of Princess Diana. Using archived audio recordings from interviews conducted in the early 1990s, the film allows Diana to narrate her own story in her own voice. Covering her early life, her marriage to Prince Charles, and her struggles within the royal family, the documentary paints a deeply personal and humanizing portrait of one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century.

Did You Know?

The audio recordings used in the film were originally made for Andrew Morton’s 1992 biography Diana: Her True Story, but had never before been heard publicly in full.

Diana recorded the tapes in secret, with the help of a close friend, because she wanted her story told honestly and directly.

The documentary was released in 2017 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing.

The film focuses entirely on Diana’s perspective without interviews from other commentators, emphasizing her voice and experiences above all else.

Diana: In Her Own Words reignited global interest in her life and legacy, highlighting her impact on both the royal family and broader social causes.
