Castle in the Sky is a 1986 animated fantasy adventure film written and directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. The story follows a young orphan boy named Pazu who catches a mysterious girl, Sheeta, as she peacefully floats down from the sky. They soon discover that Sheeta's crystal necklace is the key to finding Laputa, a legendary floating castle of a lost civilization. Together, they must outrun air pirates and government agents who seek to exploit the castle's ancient technology. The film is officially the first feature film produced and released by the iconic Studio Ghibli.

Interesting Tidbit: The name of the mythical floating island, "Laputa," was borrowed from Jonathan Swift's 1726 satirical novel Gulliver's Travels. In the book, Laputa is also a flying island, populated by intellectuals who are so lost in abstract thought that they are detached from the practical world below. However, in some Spanish-speaking countries, the film's title was changed to Lapuntu or simply Castle in the Sky because the word "la puta" is a vulgar pejorative in Spanish.
