Coraline is a stop-motion animated dark fantasy directed by Henry Selick, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel. The story follows Coraline Jones, a curious young girl who discovers a secret door in her new home leading to a parallel world that seems perfect—until its sinister secrets are revealed. Richly imaginative and a little eerie, Coraline is a beautifully crafted tale about bravery, choices, and appreciating what you have.
Did You Know?
Coraline was the first feature film produced by Laika Studios, setting a new standard for stop-motion animation.
The production involved over 140 sets and hundreds of puppets, with some scenes taking weeks to complete just a few seconds of footage.
Director Henry Selick also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, and his signature visual style can be felt throughout the film.
Tiny clothing for the puppets was hand-stitched, with some sweaters so small they had to be knitted with needles as thin as human hair.
Coraline was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, solidifying its place as a modern classic.
