Carnage is a 2011 black comedy directed by Roman Polanski, adapted from Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play Le Dieu du carnage. The film unfolds in real time within a single Brooklyn apartment, where two sets of parents—Penelope and Michael Longstreet (Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly), and Nancy and Alan Cowan (Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz)—meet to discuss a playground altercation between their sons. What begins as a polite discussion quickly devolves into chaos, exposing insecurities, hypocrisy, and barely concealed hostility in a darkly comic fashion.

Did You Know?

The film is set in Brooklyn but was entirely shot in Paris due to Roman Polanski's legal situation.

Carnage was filmed almost entirely in real time, enhancing the intensity and theatrical feel of the story.

Roman Polanski makes a subtle cameo as a neighbor who peeks into the hallway during the escalating argument.

The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and received multiple award nominations, particularly for its lead performances.

The film’s one-room setting and psychological tension have often drawn comparisons to stage plays and classic chamber dramas like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
