This is a bold graphic print of a bulldog, created in 1912 by the Austrian artist Moriz Jung. The artwork is a striking example of early 20th-century modernism, showcasing a muscular, black-and-white bulldog against a vibrant blue, patterned background. Jung employs strong, expressive lines and a simplified color palette to capture the powerful stance and character of the breed. The overall effect is one of graphic force and decorative style, characteristic of the Vienna Secession movement.

Historical Tidbit

This image was created by Moriz Jung, a gifted young artist associated with the celebrated Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop), a collective that aimed to elevate craft and design to the level of fine art. This bulldog was originally designed as one of their famous Künstlerpostkarten (artist's postcards). The Wiener Werkstätte produced thousands of these postcards by their top artists, viewing them as a democratic medium to make modern art accessible and affordable for everyone. Tragically, Moriz Jung's brilliant and promising career was cut short; he was killed in action in World War I in 1915, at the age of just 29. His work for the Wiener Werkstätte remains his most important legacy.
